Ft. Vancouver Chapter - Son's of the American Revolution Welcomes You

President's Message

Welcome to the website of the Fort Vancouver Chapter of the Washington State Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. The SAR is a national non-profit heritage organization all of whose members have been able to trace their ancestry to individuals who fought in or actively supported the American Revolution.

We are an apolitical organization. We pledge an oath to the Constitution, not a party or an individual.

We celebrate and believe in the full telling of the history of the United States, particularly the sacrifice and struggle of our founders and patriot ancestors. We go to schools in colonial attire and relate to students what a “Day in the Life” of a colonist in 1776 might have been like, replete with artifacts. We award modest scholarships to students, teachers, Eagle Scouts and JROTC cadets who submit winning essays, posters, orations and videos. Winners of these contests move on to State SAR and National SAR consideration where prize money significantly increases. Our small chapter has had 2 National Teacher of the Year winners, 2 State Knight Essay winners, 1 State Poster winner, 1 State 2nd place Oration winner and 1 Eagle Scout 2nd place essay winner. We are proud of our Clark County educators and kids!

Our Chapter also partners with neighbouring SAR chapters in Washington State and Oregon as well as the Daughters of the American Revolution. We march in parades (lots of fun!) and we lay wreaths at Veteran gravesites.

I invite you to attend our meetings which take place 9AM the third Saturday of the month excluding July, August and December at the American Legion Post #14, 4607 St James Rd in Vancouver. Breakfast is available. We also have informal “Patriot Pub” gatherings. These have become a very popular event.

If your family lore has you related to a patriot and if you want to celebrate your family story with like-minded Americans please contact us and we will gladly guide you through the process of membership in our heritage society.

In Patriotism,

Paul Winter
Peresident, Ft Vancouver Chapter, SAR
